молельное бдение (собрание) "возрожденцев"Собрание сторонников и последователей "духовного возрождения" [Revival] евангелизма в период Второго великого пробуждения (Великого возрождения) [ Second Great Awakening] (1787-1860). На собрании разъездной проповедник [ circuit rider] призывал слушателей принять прощение грехов через веру в Иисуса Христа, совершить духовное очищение молитвой, чтением Библии и пожертвованиями в пользу церкви. Такие собрания были распространены по всему Фронтиру [ Frontier], от Джорджии до Мичигана (в начале XX века по стране разъезжали до 700 бродячих проповедников-евангелистов). К приезду проповедника в район, где иногда до года не было священника, на них собирались поселенцы со всех окрестностей, проходя иной раз для этого до 40 миль. На удобном месте разбивался лагерь, где бдение продолжалось по три-четыре дня кряду: проповедь перемежалась общей молитвой и пением гимнов. В 1830-40-х славился проповедник П. Картрайт [ Cartwright, Peter], а к 1870-м, когда Духовное возрождение обрело второе дыхание, появились и новые проповедники (Д. Л. Мууди [ Moody, Dwight Lyman], позднее Билли Санди [ Sunday, William Ashley (Billy)]), а "походные собрания" [camp meeting] стали обставляться такими атрибутами, как большой брезентовый тент, натянутый между деревьев [tent(ed) meeting], посыпанный опилками проход к алтарю [saw-dust trail] и скамьи для тех, кто занимал первые ряды, то есть стремился "приобщиться к религии" ["to get religion"] и покаяться.English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > revival meeting
